Just after 11:45 p.m. on October 11, 2022, Dallas Police Officer Jacob Arellano was on his way to work for his shift. He was traveling northbound on Spur 408 in Dallas, TX. According to CBSNews, around the same time, police radio traffic recorded officers trying to stop a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Spur 408. Officers were unable to stop the female driver before the sedan struck a SUV head-on. The SUV was driven by the 25-year-old Dallas Police Officer Jacob Arellano. Officer Arellano’s vehicle was forced into another lane of travel where it was struck by a tractor trailer. The officer’s vehicle then rolled over several times before coming to a stop on the shoulder of the road. Fellow officers responded to the crash and helped pull him out of the wreckage. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Fellow Officers lined up for a procession from Methodist Hospital to the Medical Examiner’s office. He leaves behind an 8-month old son. The 30-year-old female, wrong-way driver whose name has not been released, is hospitalized with serious injuries and is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash. It is expected that the wrong way driver will be charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.
