On May 18, 2023, at 2:56 PM, a collision occurred at the intersection of S.M. Wright Freeway and E. Illinois Avenue in Dallas involving Jayki Little. There were two vehicles involved.
Unit 1, a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by Jayki Little, 32 years old, was traveling northbound in the 7900 block of S.M. Wright Freeway in the left turn lane. Unit 1 intended to make a left turn onto the 4200 block of E. Illinois Avenue.
Unit 2, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Eligha Shelley, 51 years old, was traveling southbound on the 7800 block of S.M. Wright Freeway in the middle lane. Unit 2 proceeded through the intersection, intending to continue southbound.
According to the driver of Unit 1, she observed a yellow light and proceeded into the intersection to make the left turn. However, the driver of Unit 2 claimed to have a green light and continued through the intersection. The collision occurred when Unit 2 struck the front right side of Unit 1 during the turn.
Both drivers sustained injuries of varying severity. Jayki Little and Aiesha Oliver, a passenger in Unit 1, were taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas for medical treatment. Eligha Shelley, the driver of Unit 2, did not have any passengers and did not require hospitalization.
