Eric Wayne McGarity Killed and David Charles Shamass Critically Injured in Trenton TX Crash

At approximately 10:22 p.m., Trenton TX Police received a call reporting a crash at 16775 SH 121.  According to the crash report, 35-year-old Eric McGarity was traveling southbound near the 16000 block of SH 121 and 71-year-old David Shamass was traveling northbound in the opposite lane of travel.  Mr. McGarity drove left of center into the oncoming lanes striking Mr. Shamass front left to front left.  After contact, Mr. McGarity came to final rest partially in the southbound lane and partially on the northbound lane, crossing the southbound lane of travel, where it left the roadway and entered the west side grass ditch.  The vehicle began to roll and came to rest in the ditch, passenger side down.  The vehicle Mr. Shamass was driving did not make a complete roll.  Both units were severely damaged.  According to the report, Mr. McGarity was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  A witness who stopped immediately after the crash attempted life saving measures on Mr. McGarity but was unsuccessful.  Mr. Shamass suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash and was reportedly transported to the Medical Center of McKinney.
