A Waco man has been arrested for his involvement in a drunk driving crash that claimed the life of two, and left two others with serious bodily injuries. The crash happened around 9 p.m. on April 8th on Highway 84 just north of Bellmead, TX. According to Texas DPS, Isaias Martinez Resendez (26), was traveling eastbound on Hwy 84 when he drove his Dodge Ram truck onto the improved shoulder and struck a Honda Accord occupied by Carlos Garcia (30), Elsa Lopez-Villa (21), and two other passengers parked on the side of Highway 84 near Boys Ranch Road. The impact caused both vehicles to travel down the embankment. Both Garcia and Villa-Lopez died in the accident and two others were seriously injured. Officers reported that Resendez smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. According to the affidavit, field sobriety tests found six clues of intoxication and a voluntary blood sample was obtained. Medical staff cleared Resendez to be transported to jail. He was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault. Records indicate he was also jailed on an immigration detainer and could face deportation after his trial and any punishment.
