Paris Police have arrested a Deport, TX man for his involvement in an alleged drunk driving crash that left two people seriously injured. According to a Paris Police report, officers responded to the scene of a crash in the 2700 block of North Main Street where the male driver had reportedly fled the scene. 40-year-old, John Semple, the alleged driver, was found at a nearby truck stop talking on his phone to Paris Dispatch. Officers reported that Semple smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, but refused a field sobriety test at the scene. Semple admitted to driving the vehicle, but said that the other occupants in the car had attacked him, which led to the crash. Two occupants in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and Semple was arrested and charged with two counts of Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Public arrest records indicate that Semple was arrested by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office on February 27, 2023 for another alcohol related crash that involved property damage.
