8-year-old Kaden Rainwater Killed by Drunk Driver While Riding His Scooter in Dallas, TX

According to WFAA, a 31-year-old has been arrested in connection with a Monday night crash that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy in Dallas.  Dallas Police dispatched officers to 3600 Dilido Road at around 7 p.m. to respond to reports of a boy struck by a motorist.  The victim, Kaden Rainwater, had been riding his scooter in the far East Dallas Bella Vista Apartments, when he was struck by the driver.  His parents reportedly performed CPR on him until first responders arrived.  He was transported to a Dallas hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  The driver of the vehicle, Miguel Martinez, had a child in his vehicle and remained at the scene of the crash.  Officers saw signs of intoxication and arrested him on suspicion of Intoxication Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15.  Court records indicate that Mr. Martinez has three prior DWI convictions. WBAP reports that Murder and DWI charges have been filed against Martinez and he is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $600,000 bond. A memorial service for Rainwater will be held this weekend and there’s a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for funeral expenses. The accident remains under investigation.  No other details are available at this time.
