Elisa Bengoa Indicted After Admittedly Having 10 Drinks and Crashing in Lubbock County

A Lubbock Grand Jury indicted Elisa Bengoa on charges connected to a fatal alcohol-related crash in March of this year.

Ms. Bengoa allegedly had ten drinks before getting into her car and attempting to drive around at approximately 3:30 a.m. on March 13. She admitted to police that she had been drinking at Cheers Bar, where she had five beers, three tequila shots, and two “Jack Fire” shots.

According to police, Bengoa was driving west on 34th Street behind Samantha Martinez, 30. Bengoa’s vehicle collided with Martinez’s vehicle from behind before colliding with a building near 34th and Salem Avenue.  Martinez’s car entered a nearby intersection before coming to a halt.  According to police, the 30-year-old, Ms. Martinez, passed away at the scene of the crash from her injuries. Bengoa was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. After being released from the hospital, she was arrested and held on a $100,000 bond.  Ms. Bengoa told police she had no idea what she had hit and had no recollection of driving.  Bengoa was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and has been released from the Lubbock County Jail.
